Description:
Silicon carbide, with the molecular formula SiC, is a non-metallic compound. It is formed by carbon and silicon atoms connected in the form of covalent bonds. The appearance color of silicon carbide is yellow, green and blue-black depending on the purity.
According to its structural characteristics, silicon carbide has the characteristics of strong wear resistance, high elastic modulus, strong hardness and corrosion resistance. Silicon carbide is insoluble in water, but soluble in molten alkali and molten iron.
It is widely used in abrasives, refractory materials, chemical industry and other fields. The content of silicon carbide found in nature is low, and the silicon carbide used in industry is almost all artificially synthesized.
