Ferror Chorme Description
Smelted in a reduction electric furnace, coke is used as a reducing agent, and silica or bauxite is used as a flux. The slag composition is generally SiO227~33%, MgO30~34%, Al2O326~30%, Cr2O3<9.0%. Due to the formation of chromium carbide, the product contains 4~9% carbon. The capacity of modern ferrochrome reduction furnaces is 10,000~48,000 kVA, and they are generally closed and fixed, with a smelting power consumption of 3,000~4,000 kWh/ton. The electric furnace for smelting silicon-chromium alloy is similar to the ferrochrome reduction furnace, and there are two smelting methods: one-step method and two-step method. The one-step method uses chromite, silica, coke and flux for smelting. The two-step method uses carbon ferrochrome, silica and coke as raw materials for slag-free smelting, and the smelting process is roughly similar to ferrosilicon production. The smelting power consumption is about 3,000~4,000 kWh per ton.
