Ferrovanadium (FeV) is a master alloy of iron and vanadium used to add precise amounts of vanadium to steel and iron. Its main uses are in:
High-Strength Low-Alloy (HSLA) Steel: Used in structural sections, pipelines, automotive frames, and reinforcements. The vanadium adds strength without significantly reducing ductility, allowing for lighter, stronger constructions.
Tool Steels: Vanadium forms very hard, stable carbides (VC) that dramatically increase wear resistance and cutting ability in drill bits, saw blades, and dies.
Full-Alloy Steels: For critical components like axles, crankshafts, and gears that require a combination of high strength and toughness.
Defense & Aerospace: In armor plating and other components where weight-to-strength ratio is critical.
