Vanadium is a primary beta stabilizer in titanium alloys, most famously in Ti-6Al-4V (Titanium with 6% Aluminum and 4% Vanadium), which accounts for about half of all titanium usage.
Strengthens the Alloy: It solid-solution strengthens the titanium matrix.
Enables Heat Treatment: The addition of vanadium allows the alloy to be heat-treated to significantly higher strength levels than pure titanium or other alloys.
Improves Ductility and Workability: It helps maintain good ductility and fracture toughness at high strength levels, making the alloy easier to fabricate.
This combination of high strength, low weight, and excellent corrosion resistance makes Ti-6Al-4V indispensable in aerospace (jet engines, airframes), medical implants, and high-performance automotive applications.
